Networking remote communities to high value activities and markets through a system of telecenters and education. This project is aimed at the sustainable relief of poverty in remote agricultural areas of Peru with high indigenous populations. It is targeting agricultural communities that rely on the production of potatoes as their main source of income. Working alongside NGOs, the Peruvian Government, World Bank and the Swiss International Aid Agency, this project will have a major and sustainable impact on the lives, living conditions, resource management and future opportunities for a number of remote communities in Perú.

Connecting families through ICT: survey for the Family Court

CITR is undertaking a project to discover how ICT is being used to connect seperated families and to discover its potential for enhancing communication between families and the Family Court.

Evaluation of the Otara digital opportunities project

Otara Digital Opportunities (ODO) is an initiative to bring information and communications technology (ICT) to 22 community groups in Otara, Manukau City. CITRUS has been selected to carry out a formal evaluation of the project. This includes reviewing the project itself as well as running focus groups with community groups and other participants to discover what impact ODO is having on the groups themselves.

Innovation project

CITR has developed an extension to the existing final year undergraduate IT project in Unitec's Bachelor of Computing Systems degree. Working with the WestSmart Business Incubator, we will select student teams with an idea for a commercially viable product and work with them throughout their project to build not only the prototype of their future business, but also to build business capability into the team. A successful outcome from this project will lead to more than a job, it will give students the opportunity to build their own high technology business and will act as a springboard into the Business Incubator, again greatly increasing their chances of success.
